Dayton State Park

Dayton State Park offers a variety of exciting activities and breathtaking views. Enjoy an intimate experience with nature by sightseeing, or host an event at one of the many designated areas.
Dayton State Park history
Dayton was one of the first settlements of Nevada and is home to the Rock Point Mill site, originally established in 1861. The Carson River generated power for the mill to refine silver from local mines. The actual mill has since burned down, but the site evokes the rich history of the area. In 1977, the area was officially designated as a state park.
Dayton State Park activities
There is plenty to do in the warm summer temperatures at Dayton State Park. Ten pet-friendly campsites are available year round and include BBQ pits for a roaring campfire. If you are hosting a large party or event, you can rent the pavilion for a reasonable fee. The group space conveniently offers hot and cold running water, flushing toilets and electrical outlets, as well as plenty of seating. Walk the trails for a truly unique experience with nature, or enjoy bird watching in the serene desert air. Picnic areas are also available with an incredible view of the Carson River. Since the park is legally protected, hunting, as well as swimming or fishing in the river, is not permitted, but the landscape makes up for the limited activities. The rare plants and animals surrounded by the untouched desert land make the park come alive and leave you with a genuine appreciation for nature.
To experience natural desert beauty on your own or surrounded by friends and family, visit Dayton State Park for a truly original trip.
