Fort Churchill State Historic Park

Fort Churchill State Historic Park is a large state park in Nevada. It is one of the seven National Historic Landmarks of the State of Nevada. The park includes 4,461 acres and is in the central area of the state, just south of Silver Springs. There are many exciting features in the park, assuring there is something for everyone.
Visitor center and history
The visitor center focuses on the history of the area and the Native Americans that once inhabited it. The Piaute and Bannock Indians once lived peacefully in the area, until Army troops were accused of raping two young Piaute girls. The two Indian tribes retaliated, which ended in a bloody battle with casualties on both sides. Eventually the Army stationed in the area built a Pony Express station.
Camping
Campers appreciate the 20 campsites along the river, and a day use area that offers space for picnics and other gatherings. Campers can enjoy all the beautiful natural features in the area including the Carson River.
Hiking
The park has many hiking trails throughout, many of which are near important landmarks in the Fort Churchill area. Other trails simply explore the vast wilderness, and give hikers a chance to experience the wildlife and birds in the area.
As you can see, Fort Churchill State Historic Park is an important American landmark. Though many do not know the history of the Fort, those who visit leave feeling closer to their ancestors and better for having learned of the struggles in the area.
