Garnet Hill

When you mention Nevada, many people automatically think of Las Vegas. For nature lovers, however, Nevada brings to mind remarkable scenery: the majestic Eagan mountain range, the shimmering Nevada Desert and many other outdoor recreational areas. Gem-studded Garnet Hill, a local favorite since 1970 when it was formally recognized as a public recreation area, is one of these.
How did Garnet Hill get its name?
There is no mystery surrounding the origins of its name. Locals dubbed this area Garnet Hill for the abundance of raw garnets nestled in the rocks. These gemstones, which were formed in volcanic rock, are studded all throughout the recreational area; with a little effort, you might unearth their own garnets. Look carefully and you could also come across bits and pieces of quartz and copper.
