Kershaw-Ryan State Park

Nestled at the northern edge of Rainbow Canyon, Kershaw-Ryan State Park is an oasis in a dry and desert country.

Natural beauty

A garden complete with fruit trees, grape vines and lush grass planted by early settlers is maintained by a natural spring-fed pond. Located just two miles south of Caliente, the beautiful rock walls of the canyon provide picturesque views perfect for photography and appreciation of wildlife. Other amenities include a children’s wading pool and playground, as well as picnic and group use areas with grills and tables. 15 campsites are available, complete with restrooms, coin operated showers and RV dump station; pets are allowed. Easy access to hiking trails leads to even greater opportunities for nature study and panoramic views. Three developed trails lead adventure-seekers on quick jaunts around the canyon: the Canyon Overlook Trail is the longest one at a mile in length, while the Horsespring Trail and the Rattlesnake Canyon Trail are each about ½ mile long.

Visitor guidelines

To ensure that your visit is as pleasant as possible, the Park asks that visitors observe the following guidelines during their stay: All plants, animals, artifacts, rocks and mineral materials are protected by state law. Pets are welcome as long as they are kept on a leash of not more than six feet in length. Pets are not allowed in park buildings or structures. No animals are permitted in the wading pond. Children under 16 must have adult supervision if wading in the pond. Horseshoe playing is prohibited on turf areas.

Relax and rejuvenate in one of nature's hidden beauty spots by visiting Kershaw-Ryan State Park this season.
