Mill Creek Recreation Area

If you are on your way through Battle Mountain, Nevada, check out the Mill Creek Recreation Area. It is about 20 miles south of Battle Mountain and was home to the Civilian Conservation Corps work camp in the 1930s.
History
In the 1930s, this area was where the Civilian Conservation Corp was set up, and you can still see some remnants from that time period. For those who are unaware as to what the Civilian Conservation Corp is, it was a public work relief program set up by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It essentially gave jobs to unskilled youth from 18 to 25 who were unmarried and needed jobs. This also helped to conserve a lot of natural resources and areas.
Amenities and recreation
The park stands at an elevation of 5,200 feet and is surrounded by cottonwood trees. It has 11 camp sites for you to choose from with fire rings, picnic tables and restrooms. There are some vehicle sites as well if you want to bring a trailer, but electric, water and sewer connections are not provided as it is too remote. There are plenty of hiking trails and bird watching spots, and if you are into fishing there is rainbow and brook trout. The best part is that there is no fee to camp at this recreation area.
Mill Creek Recreation Area is a great pit stop for the outdoors man or family. With plenty of local amenities and no camping fee, who could pass it up?
