Location

The Mormon Station State Historic Park is found in Genoa, Nevada south of Carson City, Nevada via US 395 and State Route 206. It is about 12 miles east of South Lake Tahoe.

History

This historic park is home to the first permanent settlement in Nevada, which was established in 1851. It quickly became a trading post to many emigrants walking the trail to California who were looking for gold.

Museum

There is a museum that exhibits some of the history that the park is known for. The museum is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. It only costs $1 to visit the museum.

Amenities

Aside from the museum, there are plenty of attractions and amenities available for public use. There are covered wagons located outside for children to play on. Small picnic sites located throughout the park are great for catching a bite to eat, and hiking trails give you a scenic tour. There is also a large pavilion area that is rented out for a small fee, and do not forget the public restrooms!
