Popular Climbing Locations

If you can stand the heat, there is an eclectic assortment of rock climbing locations in Nevada. From Calico Basin to Mt. Charleston, this guide can help you experience the real Nevada from its highest spots.
Calico Basin
This a great place to climb, but parking is ridiculously limited. As a result, climbers need to park at the Red Springs parking area. It is an extra half-mile hike to Calico Basin, but it beats a parking ticket. It does not cost anything to climb this spot, and you should definitely check out the Valentine's Day, The Fox and Yin and Yang routes.
Mt. Charleston
One of the best places in the world to climb limestone, this spot is summed up in one word, beautiful. Mr. Charleston is north-west of Las Vegas, and there is currently construction on an ice-climbing section that would is available on the rare occasions that ice forms.
Mud Springs Canyon
This spot offers a long and complex climb, so take care. Do the approach before the actual climb. Naturally, this is one of the least popular climbing spots in Nevada.
Black Velvet Canyon
This is one of the more popular spots in Nevada. Offering giant walls and several long multi-pitches, every climber should hit this spot at least once in his or her life.
There are plenty more places to climb in Nevada, such as the Mary Jane & Yellow Pine spot, but this guide focuses on some of the shinier Nevada gems. Of course, do not skimp on supplies and training when climbing, so make sure you have what you need and you know what you are doing!
