South Fork Owyhee River/Owyhee River Canyon

If you crave an outdoor adventure unlike anything your friends have yet tried or seen, then head to the South Fork and Owyhee River regions of Nevada. These largely undeveloped wildlife areas offer a wealth of outdoor activities from relaxing kayak rides to trophy fishing.
Fish the South Fork Reservoir
The 1650 acre South Fork Reservoir is home to both large and smallmouth bass, brown and rainbow trout and catfish, making it a popular destination for fishermen of every skill level. The constant depth of the reservoir promises good fishing year round both onshore and from a boat.
Canoe the Owyhee River Canyon
The deep and isolated Owyhee River Canyon offers a challenging hike, especially with a canoe in tow, but the ride and the view are well worth it. The south fork of this section of the Owyhee River is scenic and mild, suitable for canoers and kayakers of every skill level, but the rapids of the north fork are strictly for experts.
Camp and hike along the Owyhee River
If you are a camper that likes to go off the map, there are ample opportunities to do just that on the Owyhee River. Camping is free, but expect only rustic campsites. Likewise, with no established trails, hikers can either follow paths beaten by other hikers or area wildlife, or cut a path of their own. For something closer to civilization, head over to the nearby South Fork State Recreation Area which promises a central shower facility, well water and a picnic table and fire pit at every campsite.
The South Fork Owyhee River and Owyhee River Canyon areas of Nevada are rich with rustic sporting opportunities. True outdoorsmen can fish, hunt, hike, kayak or camp to their heart's delight.
