South Fork State Recreation Area

The South Fork State Recreation Area in Nevada offers a multitude of activities and amenities for visitors who want to fully experience the natural environment. Located 16 miles south of Elko and consisting of 2,200 acres, this recreation area is a popular choice for hunters, fishermen, hikers and campers.
Fishing and boating
The South Fork State Recreation Area is home to the South Fork Reservoir, a 1,650 acre body of water. This reservoir is a prime spot to fish for trophy brown and rainbow trout, smallmouth and largemouth black bass and channel catfish. Even if you do not fish, the South Fork Reservoir is a great spot for boating and observing waterfowl, such as Canadian geese, Mallard and Pintail ducks, Common Coots and American Widgeons.
Camping and sightseeing
Opportunities to enjoy camping and sightseeing abound at the South Fork State Recreation Area. Visitors enjoy the deep canyons, rolling hills, woodlands and meadows that make up the landscape of this recreation area. It is not uncommon to catch glimpses of wildlife such as coyotes, beavers, kit foxes, badgers and Rocky Mountain mule deer in the park. For visitors who enjoy camping, the South Fork State Recreation Area also contains a campground with 25 camp sites.
