Zunino/Jiggs Reservoir

Enjoy a wilderness camping experience, accessible with your vehicle, at Zunino/Jiggs Reservoir. This is a great campground for rugged individuals who do not require all the amenities of home, although several amenities are available. Enjoy your stay with camping, fishing and boating, and bring your binoculars along for observing the wildlife.

What you need to know

If you want to get away from crowds, you probably can not get much further than this high desert lake, 5,600 feet in elevation, with its sparse vegetation and rugged desertscape. In spite of its location on a reservoir, the Zunino/Jiggs is a "dry camp", meaning you must bring your own drinking water. The campground has nine developed sites. Set up your tent, then enjoy the aroma of your own cooking; tables and grills are provided, as are vault toilets. The Zunino/Jiggs is one of several lakes in the area, so if the reservoir should dry up in a drought year, you can always pack up and find another spot nearby.

Wilson Reservoir, 5,300 feet in elevation, is a beautiful lake surrounded by rugged mountains, with 21 campsites, accessible bathrooms, a boat ramp and passable roads from late April through October, barring a rain storm. The lake is also in rugged territory; the last 16 miles of the road are gravel. This is a place suitable, perhaps, for the likes of the historical mountain men, or for modern city folk who just want to get away from it all.

North Wildhorse Campground and Tabor Creek

North Wildhorse Lake, the highest of three at 6,200 feet, is another rugged camp, and at over a mile high, offers a unique camping opportunity, as does Tabor Creek with its 14 campsites with tables, fire rings and vault toilets.

Nothing can beat this cluster of lakes, including Zunino/Jiggs, for delivering a taste of Nevada's high desert; with the colorful mountains and unique desert flora, you find yourself face to face with the wilderness, with the benefit of roads, campsites, boat-ramps and fishing lakes.
